Support Bowen Children’s Centre

Our mandate is to serve our community to the highest possible standards while controlling costs so that child care and education is affordable for the young families on Bowen that need our services. We are grateful for the community’s support as we meet the needs of this island’s children and their parents in an environment of persistently rising costs. Donations  Bowen Children’s Centre is a registered charitable organization and gratefully accepts both cash and in-kind donations. The centre issues tax receipts for donations of $20 or more, and may issue receipts for certain in-kind donations as well.
United Way It’s possible to direct your United Way donations to the charity of your choice by naming the organization and listing its Charity registration number when you make your United Way donation. Bowen Children’s Centre number is 14105 1672 RR0001. Funds at the Children’s Centre There are two funds at Bowen Children’s Centre which you may specify as beneficiary of your donation if you wish. These funds are:
  1. The Gail Taylor Bursary Fund – this fund helps parents who otherwise might not have the money send their children to pre-school. Parents who don't qualify for government subsidy may apply for sponsorship through this fund. If your financial situation has changed, if money is tight or if your child needs extra support to be at pre-school, you may qualify for assistance from this fund. And your application will be entirely anonymous to the board that divides up the money. Last year, $8000 went into the bursary fund which helped six families.
  2. The Nicolette McIntosh Scholarship Fund – this fund was created to recognize the outstanding contribution of renowned artist and long-time supporter of Bowen Children’s Centre, Mrs. Nicolette McIntosh. The fund provides for Bowen Children Centre staff who are seeking early childhood training in arts based programming. We are grateful to Mrs. McIntosh for her long-standing and continued support of our work.

Our support of local communities and charities dates back to the first store opened by Carson Stong in 1931. Mr. Stong’s generosity and leadership have served as the foundation for Stong's understanding of the importance of community involvement. That involvement has earned us a reputation of meeting more than just customers' grocery needs. We have continued this tradition by offering schools an exciting opportunity to raise monies for their children's education. For all parents and faculty that spend money online at www.stongs.com, Stong's Market will monitor monthly sales and rebate 4% of monthly total gross sales back to the school. The more parents that participate, the more revenue will be generated for the school. Stong's Markets is providing an exciting opportunity for parents to raise money for their children's school through their weekly grocery purchases. We at Stong's feel confident that this is an excellent opportunity to raise much needed funds for the school and ultimately our children.” To find out more about how you can have your groceries delivered on-island and support BCC by shopping at Stong’s, please visit: www.stongs.com
